They believed an end to "a" system of things would occur in their lifetime. And it did - when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed in 70 A.D. However, it wasn't the "end" that Jesus referred to in Matthew chapter 24. John's vision (Revelation) was recorded in 98 A.D. and shows there would be a greater fulfillment at a future date. Don't worry though - it all ends well. Read Revelation 21:3,4.

Yes, they did. Even St. Paul believed that the end was near. If you ever read the revelations put forth by the Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, the apostles (and many early Christians) believed that Christ would return in their time.

However, keep in mind that Christ did say that His teachings were to be propagated to all corners of the Earth. Little did the apostles know that there were lands that would not be "formally" discovered until 1492.

Homina homina. If you look at the Dead Sea Scrolls, the messianic folk there certainly thought it would..and for them it did. We really know nothing of what his disciples thought because the so called Gospels were created at least 100 years after he left. So, the early Christians turned from proselytizing their fellow Jews to the pagans who were a more amenable prospect base for paying believers -- kinda like Starbucks.

Couldn't tell you - my phone doesn't support that extent of Long Distance.
I do know that they all knew their lifetimes would end.

The Dead Sea Scrolls seemed to indicate that a fellow by the name of Ralph was seen parading with a papyrus board that read "the end is near".

pry not. technology in those days wouldnt allow for any mass extinction of the human race. (unless they thought some kind of natural disaster was going to occur) but if jesus lived today, his disciples might have believed it with nukes and other weapons of mass destruction.

I think so - because - they did not begin to write down their experiences until some started dying off - in the 50's

Here they had seen Jesus do miracles and He said
I am coming back - - - - - -you bet I would have been waiting
on the doorstep -

but then they realized they had more work to do
and got to it

They didn't believe the world would end, but they did believe (Jesus) Y'shua would come back in their life times.
They didn't know when He would return, & when they asked Him when He would return to the earth He told them He didn't know, only His Father knew.
When they asked when the world would end He told them of the things that would happen on the earth that would be the begining of the end of the earth as we know it.

The disciples of Jesus were too busy laughing that people actually believed the joke they were playing.

They would be in hysterics now if they knew that billions of people were still falling for it.
