Does any one from Chicago or Kankakee, Illinois know where I can buy cream of tartar at a cheap price. Less than $4. I also need to know the recipe for Baked Alaska. Its delicious and I want to make some for Thanksgiving but I can;t find that ingredient or recipe.

cream of tartar is a little expensive.

The only thing I know about Baked Alaska [my sister used to make it] is, you better make sure meringue covers every inch of the ice cream or big mess!...lol

Last time I bought Cream of Tartar was at Dominick's and it was less than $4 a jar. As to the recipe for Baked Alaska - try www.foodnetwork.com I use them all the time.

You can't find Tone's or Spice Island cream of tartar at Krogers or Hy-Vee for less than $4? I used to get it for 79 cents in Iowa. As for the baked Alaska, I've never tried to make it, so I can't comment.
