For a girl I ask her -about her friends, kids and siblings, where she was born, ethic background, travel outside the country, preference in music, where she went to school/grew up, hobbies/interests, types of foods she likes, what/where she works and how long, volunteers for charities or participates in sports. With each answer there are lots of new questions.
. So you are European and love to cook, do you cook any ethnic dishes? Have you been to Europe? Is that on your mom's or Dad's side? Etc. As the topics change you will find what you have in common and add in your own comments. Listen very careful to what is said because they will hint at what is important to them, it’s up to you to listen and figure it out.

Oh god! I still remember the questions I asked him on ours and that was nearly two years ago! Hehehe. I just asked him what he liked, what are his hobbies, what type of movies he liked, and some very naughty questions.
