I am interested in joining the USAF under Intelligence (1N031) and have the necessary ASVAB scores (94); however, after talking to an ex-military person, I was notified that airmen are deployed in Iraq, regardless of job (and in fact due to the nature of my job I may unfortunately have a preference to be deployed in Iraq).
I am not afraid of killing or dying, but I do not like that idea that anyone who approaches me might blow my unit up; if I were to shoot them after a warning to leave immediately, I would be either commemorated or dishonored, depending on whether or not the person had any weapons/explosives.
So, what are my chances of being deployed to Iraq? What are my chances of gong to a non-war zone?

Whether you are deployed, will depend on what unit you are assigned to.
If your Wing deploys to Iraq, then you will deploy to Iraq with them.
They send very few people to Iraq as individuals.
Most deploy with thier Unit.
So pretty much, it's almost 100% that you will deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan at some point in your enlistment, probally more than once,
Since the Air Force tries to limit deployments to 90 days.

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. Almost every Air Force carrer field gets deployed...from intel and SF to cooks and dentists. Entire Wings do not deploy so I don't know where he came up with that. Typically a full squadron or a team from a squadron deploy's and this is determined by the mission tasking. Further anyone still saying the Air Force is still trying to limit deployments to 90 days, simply is not in the Air Force. Nuff said. I think you need to think long and hard about your decision...you will most certainly see a warzone.

Yes, the air force deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc. etc. And who ever said they DONT give Air Force people weapons is a moron, they do. BUT they dont USUALLY have to use them, but you cant go on usually...
The fact is, if you join the military you HAVE to be prepared, no matter what branch, to kill or be killed. Yes it doesnt happen much in the Air Force, but it definintally does happen and if you are not willing to do those things, you should NOT join.
*EDIT* excuse me, the person said they dont give intel guns... not just air force, that again is not true. I seen AF intel loaded down with more weapons than a marine, 3 inch tempepred glass on their vehichles with a little dent from a bullet... Intel knows too much to NOT carry a gun.

No.. they would not deliver you in a warfare zone after finding out positive for HIV. Do you no longer bear in suggestions each and each and every of the physicals you had to have and the blood artwork they did previously you went distant places? They pitch a in good structure when you're ten pounds overweight.. a lot less have something like HIV.

Delpoyment means to a war zone. Anything else is just TDY. If you're that worried about deploying, don't join my military.

During your military service, you will end up in a hot zone. I would give it 98% chance.
