Because I do believe in both, does that mean I believe in intelligent design or how might you call it?

The reason I believe in both is because I found proof of evolution in the Bible.

Genesis:

11
Then God said, "Let the earth BRING FORTH vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it." And so it happened:
12
the earth BRING FORTH every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it was.

Notice the "brought forth"? It probably means it took years for it to come, interesting isn't? Anyway so does that mean I believe in Intelligent Design or what?

Sunny :), I forgot to mention that too. It says everything was created in 6 days but was it a normal 24 hour day? How can you be sure? It only mentions 6 days but for God 6 days could have been 6 billion years, think about it :)

Absolutely. Evolution, is in all likelihood the method God uses to create.

You can BELIEVE whatever you want.

For what it's worth, that doesn't make it true.

I guess you could ask three questions concerning evolution: what, how, and why?

The "what" is answered by the facts of evolution: species change over time, eventually forming new species. As closely related species become isolated, they become more and more different until eventually you have entirely different genera, families, orders, classes...well, if you allow enough time, all of Earth's living organisms are accounted for.

The "how" is answered by the theory of evolution: it basically says that new traits emerge in species due to random mutations. These traits can be harmful (they cause the organism to die), neutral (they have no real effect on the organism's viability), or, rarely, beneficial (they enhance the organism's odds of survival). Those mutations that benefit a species are more likely to be passed on, making the species as a whole more fit for survival. As I said before, it's only a matter of time before two populations, isolated by geography or other barriers, can change enough to become separate species.

The "why"...well, I read an essay one time that suggested that science shouldn't tackle "why" questions, and that any "why" questions a scientist DOES get tempted by could be better rephrased as "how" questions. "Why" is such a philosophical word, and I think it's the question you're attempting to address with your theology. Science can do nothing to help you with that.

If you believe that the Bible supports your theistic view of evolution, then by all means...believe it! Remember that there's no PROOF for that idea (and no, the Bible doesn't count), but then, such is the nature of religion. Take care.

Can you define what you mean by evolution? Plants and animals change and adapt for a variety of reasons. They always have and always will. There is nothing wrong with saying God created something and then it changed or evolved as neccessary to its environment.
The bit about the wording. Sometimes it is hard to translate the actual meaning of words as opposed to the literal words themselves. I do not personally know in this case what the intended meaning was. From what I have studied I have never come across anything or anyone who suggested a notion that "bring forth" meant anything other than plants grew and went to seed and grew etc just as we see them do today.

Brought forth simply means that God created those things from the earth....the time period that it took is stated as "the morning and the evening" Evolution states that all life on earth came from common ancestors million of years ago and that man has evolved from a common ancestor with apes. That is not what the Bible says in Genesis...it states that God *created* the universe, earth and all life on earth in 6 literal days which took place around 6000 years ago and that He created man in His image....not a common ancestor with apes.
The two views are totally incompatible if you wish to be faithful to either one.

Yes this could be true. Believe whatever you want. I kinda believe a little of both too. Just because God created it doesn't mean it didn't evolve like they say. He could have created it to evolve this way.

well it will be kind of difficult because they contradict each other. and the Bible specifically says the earth was built in 6 days!

You can believe whatever you like my dear. Knowing that evolution has evidence helps, and if you like the faithful story then keep it. Just don't ask me to teach it to my students.
