I think the term crush implies a temporary feeling based on fantasy. Young people have crushes on people they don't know well, actors, musicians, athletes, the most beautiful girl in the class etc. You may feel you know them, or that they have all the qualities you ever wanted, or that they are perfect...it would be very different if you got to know them.
When you like someone it implies you have spent the time to find out the type of person they are, and enjoy their company because of their personal qualities.

It depends on the context. Liking someone can simply mean you enjoy spending time with that person as friends. Having a crush on someone means that you're attracted to them in a romantic way.

Having a crush on someone is being attracted to someone you don't really know, I think 'liking' someone is much more personal.
