My father in law is having to replace his color wheel on his DLP tv. Has anyone else had any similar problems. or just any problem in general.

Because of its high rate of rotation,it is a part destined to fail eventully.Worth changing once but after that,time to buy an lcd panel tv.

After 3 years, just when I hooked up a new BluRay player, the bulb went out. I had a warranty so it was replaced for free.

I have not had problems with the color wheel, but it is a moving part.

The main cause of light engine failure [the color wheel] is due to improper cooling down of the actual lamp. The correct procedure for shutting down the lamp is to first turn off the lamp while leaving on the main tv fan for at least 20 minutes. Thereafter, turn off the whole tv, using the main power switch.
