I currently have a 4 guage amp kit with 8 guage distribution to my Alpine MRP-M650 powering a 12" Type R and a old Alpine MRV-F307 powering 4 5x7 100 rms speakers. When I install my new Alpine MRP-F550 with 4x90 rms will I need to upgrade my 4 guage to 1/0 or change my alternator which is currently 105 amp. Also should I power the sub amp with 4 guage instead of 8?

Ok one thing you have to know is all Wiring isnt the same. That cheap wireing will say 4 gauge but when you look at it its all insulation and the copper wire inside is like 8 gauge. You dont need to run 0 guage thats overkill. Just go and get yourself a nice amp kit. Kicker acutally makes nice *** wiring and fosgates power series and lightning audio as well. Just take a peice of your 4 and 8 gauge wires and go and compare them with one of those brands and you see the difference. Those amps dont need a 0 gauge. Just run a nice 4 gauge get your self a capicitor instead of using the distributor block and distripute your 4 and 8 gauge wires to each amp with the capicitor. 105 amp altonator is more than enough. I run a lot more power than that and I only have a 95 amp altonator so you dont need to upgrade that. Ive dont installation professionally for like 15 years now and yes the wire can make the biggest difference just spend a little extra and by the good stuff the first time

8 AWG is fine for 200 watts or less. 4 will give better power transfer.
