If he need a new hip, then he needs a new hip. However this can be a serious operation, depending on if it is a full hip replacement or not. I have Arthritis, watched someone having a full hip replacement. They start by dislocating the leg at the hip and then throwing the leg over the Patients shoulder! That exposes both the ends of the joints that need replacing. That alone was not nice and worried me more than the drilling and screwing, let alone cementing of the new end joints. After that they pull the leg back down and force it into the new socket! Good Luck
