in John 10 Jesus says "I and my Father are one" and the Jews began to pick up rocks to stone him.
In verses 32-35 he says, "for which of my good works do you stone me?"
The Jews replied, "we aren't stoning you for good works, but because you, being a man, make yourself God."
Then Jesus says something peculiar, "Is it not written in your law that I said that you are Gods?"
Your thoughts?

That is written in the Bible
I have read it
we are Gods
God made us like himself in his likeness
we need years of knowing him and
wisdom and knowledge of the word to comprehend the dept of that one
Blessings

The first verse reveals more about the direction of Christianity around the year 100, when the concept of "Jesus as God" was appearing among gentile Christians.
Notice how in the synoptic gospels, Jesus calls himself "son of God" but noone attacks him with stones. The Jews are called Son of God throughout the Hebrew Bible, and have no problem with this term.
But in John, we see the pagan idea of Jesus being the literal "son of God" (i.e. God impregnating a human woman and having a son) being incorporated, so in John's gospel, he assumes the Jews also understood the term this way.

In the second verse, Jesus is referring to Psalm 82, where the psalmist is referring to the judges, encouraging them to judge fairly and not get carried away with their authority.
Reading the psalm carefully, it says the judges are God-like since they have great authority and responsibility, but then the psalmist reminds the judges that they are only men and will "die as men".

You need to read the whole chapter to get a better understanding of what was going on. And it will help you to understand more why Jesus said what He said. You can't take a scripture out of context and get an explanation that is not to long to put in here. So read the whole chapter first, and then ask your question again.

Jesus was referring to Psalms 82:6. In the verse in Psalms, it seems the writer is criticizing those who sit themselves up in power as "gods", wielding their authority over others unjustly.
My dad (a retired pastor with too many degrees) suggested that in a way, we will be given the authority and gifts to do various things, such as healing, that previously were only given to God. So, he thinks that we may be given these abilities and that to a casual observer, we will appear to be gods.

It is obvious the Jews were stoning him because he was claiming to be God...a real 'no-no' in Judaism.
Amazingly...Muslims refuse to believe Jesus's claim of Divinity....making them just like the Jewish Pharisees.

seems very clear. jesus is no more of a god than the rest of us are. he is one with the Father in the same way any of us can be... (expecting a lot of thumbs down for this, but i will still say what i believe is true). may there be some listening ears who will learn the truth.

Most Bible scholars believe what Jesus is referring to is Psalm 82. Psalm 82 supposedly says that we are all gods.
