I work in a call center (Philippines) for an Auto claims department (US). But sometimes when Im so bored that I dont answer the phone, I just keep them waiting there while Im on mute so they wont hear anything. Or sometimes I just release the call.

Anyway, I feel guilty because all or most of our calls are people who are just involved in an accident or who are in the middle of teh road who needs a tow.

But what can I do, Im soo freakin bored.

Have a little passion for your callers. They are calling you for help and your indifference to their problems indicates to me that you have a self esteem problem. Imagine yourself on the side of the road after an accident and the medics decided they were bored and just didn't want to stop your bleeding. Maybe if I let him bleed for a while I'll feel better about myself.

Come on David wake up.....and are you not being paid a wage to answer that phone and help people. If you are so uncaring about your customer.....quit the job and go find another one. Preferable one where you can abuse people who need help. I'd would like to think your Mom would not be happy with your attitude.

david knowing the importance of the work you are doing and the needs of the callers to you its really bad on your part to act like that ,one can understand boredom but this is carelessness ,imagine yourself in such a position and not getting the help at the time of need . Hope you understand the gravity of the situation and try to mend your ways or quit the job and let somebody more caring handle this delicate seat of work .hope you will not mind my being blunt.

Then get a new job.

If this is the callous attitude you have for those in need, maybe flipping burgers at McDonalds is more suited to you.

Yes, I admit that I hate answering the phone at work, but i do it as best as I can

If you are feeling bored with this , i suggest you resign from your job. Don't put others' life at stake just because you are bored. It is very irresponsible for you to do that.

It's your responsibility to provide those people with the service your paid to do. If your bored quit your job and get a more fun and exciting job. People depend on you! Do your job or don't do it at all.

QUIT YOUR JOB. Or just...I don't know, what do you do when you're NOT picking up the calls? Aren't you bored then too?
Imagine how you would feel in their position.
