My friend has very protective parents. She's 19 and although over legal age, still gets her parents permission for everything she does. My fiance and myself are going to Thailand and we want her to come with us and another friend. We're all convinced that her parents wont let her. I understand they want to protect their daughter but she needs to have some freedom and room to make her own choices. We've tried the whole "I'm 19, I'm an adult and I'm old enough", it doesn't work. What can she do and how can I make sure that by trying to help her I'm not hurting her feelings?? The last thing I want to do is upset her.

We're from Australia and the legal age is 18 over here. We're just concerned because now all of us are able to do things and we don't want her to be left behind.

To this Lisa person, no I don't think she likes it I would know this because I have been friends with her for a very long time - I don't know SEVEN years. My parents are careful and considerate and give me great advice but still realise that its important for me to learn things. I'm not butting in but friends try and help each other!

To Trailsend Ranch, You may have a point but she has told me if it were up to her she would go tomorrow and she is trying everything to convince them. I'm not a dense person and I'm pretty close to my friend.

MRS M.... did you ever think that maybe she can't move out. I know she doesn't want to affect the relationship that she has with her parents but I know she doesn't like it. Maybe you should stop jumping to other conclusions and just answer my original question!!!!

Just so you ALL know, she actually asked me to talk to her parents for her. Sounds like she's asking me to 'butt' in?? Is it still wrong even if thats what she wants??
