Just food and cake is fine, you should limit it to an hour or 2 or so anyway because that's about as much as a 1 year old can take.
I liked the cupcake idea, you could get some different fixings and have each child frost and decorate their own, that's fun, inexpensive and qualifies as an activity. You could also have the kids make mini pizzas of their own (english muffins, or prep little dough rounds, french bread, etc.) or something like that, again using the food as the game/activity. I always loved doing that stuff when I was a kid.
If you really want to do an affordable take-home thing and you have a decent printer, I took a pic of my son getting his head shaved into a mohawk the nite before his birthday, printed it on decent paper into wallet sizes and gave them out to the people who came. You could do something like that (not necessarily the mohawk part lol but some cute pic of the kid) and attach stickers and/or a piece of candy to each one for the kids.

It is perfectly okay. If you are having only a few kids it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to the dollar store and make up cheap goody bags but, your daughter won't remember a huge party anyway. Dress her cute and relax and enjoy her day with you family. Take a lot of pictures, that is what she will really appreciate when she is older. Not how many people, how many gifts, what decorations, etc...Money can't buy happiness! Happy birthday to your little girl! Congrats for making it through the first year!

Decorations are always on sale at Party City. They often do 50% off there. You don't have to do a character or if you do, you can only get one package of the plates and napkins and get the rest on a large pack of cheap white napkins and plates. Also, get regular cups. The character cups weren't useful at my son's party since most kids are using sippy cups and the adults preferred the large cups. Will some family members or friends contribute food and drinks? It really helped us save doing it that way. Good luck on your little girls 1st birthday party!

Gather up about 6 or 7 photos from your little girl's first year and pin them on a board, number each photo (in no particular order.) Make up a list of your daughters age in each photo, and get everyone to match the age with the photo. More for the adults, than for the kids, but fun!!

Thank you. Im not a fan of extravagant infant toddler birthdays. One thing to recommend is if youre going to have older toddlers there, try to toddler proof - more than just baby proofing. It makes it harder on the parents to always be saying no. Also invite toddler parents to bring toys too, sometimes the infant toys they get bored with. Othewise anything like cheap crafts, construction paper, playdough etc. is fun.

One year olds can't really participate in games anyway, so don't waste your $$ on that! If you have some fun toys, good food, and maybe decorating the cupcakes (good idea!) that should be enough. Take lots of pictures!!

My Daughter made colorful Poke-a-dots ( cut out colored paper in round circles, different sizes)
and put them everywhere around the house, on the table clothe, and the kids played with them, plus they looked so pretty.
She also bought her a cute pokadot dress outfit.
She put dots on the cake...( just dots of frosting)
No games, just had toys for them to play with.

We're doing a cupcake theme. Give each child a cupcake, which is really cheap to make.
You can buy a few Cupcake mylar balloons, and some streamers.

make the games yourself... lnstead of pin the tail on the donkey, draw a cake and give them paper made candless and blind fold em to place the candles on the cake, or musical chairs, that costs nothing...

you're able to desire to do a visit to the mall, or skating, in line with probability a lunch out to consume, and for goody luggage, locate out what her and her acquaintances opt for to do, in the event that they like activities, than in line with probability candies wrapped like activities. in the event that they like doing their nails and stuff, then locate some amazing nail polish stuff, little issues for hair.. Ect. i'm valuable regardless of you do would be a blast for them!
