Yes you are the same person with a new name. I got married and changed my last name, but I am still me-just married. Legally you are the same person with a new name. Now if you look at it mentally, then why not try to be a different person. But anyone can do that anytime without changing your name. That is a process and an expense that you don't necessarily have to do. Just change your way of life, thinking and your attitude and it might accomplish the same results.

It's not what your name is or what you change your name to that makes up your personality. It's what is inside you--your heart and soul, how you treat others, etc. You could change your name to Henry VIII, but that doesn't automatically make you a King of England, or changing it to Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, etc doesn't mean you are a killer. Maybe this guy meant certain feelings were dead inside him. If that's the case, he should talk to a doctor or counselor.

I recently changed my last name too. I am not a different person, just my last name is different. If you love the person you're marrying than the last name change is just a legality (you can chose to do it or not)

Women change their names all the time, by marriage. Does not change who they are. Legally, I think it would be a simple AKA thing (also known as).
Of course, the person is the same. Your friend has a lot of animosity, it sounds like and he hopes to put his old life behind. I think it is sad.. but his choice.

Christians believe that when they 'accept Jesus' and are baptized that they become a 'new' person. The sheriff thinks, though, that you will still have to stand trial for everything you did before you were immersed or changed your name.
If you really wanted to become a different person -- different personality, etc. -- changing your name would be a good start.

Legally your name is the one you changed it to. No matter what you call yourself though, you are always the same person inside.

You are not the same. In California, at least, you have to change your hair color, get a divorce, change your job and buy a different car.

Yes, you're the same person, because all records switch to that name.

Only the name changed, you can't change who you really are.
