No state has a 3 day return policy for automobile purchases!

Carmax will take a vehicle back, as long as you buy another one from them, so it isn't a real return policy. Unless your contract offers you a 72 hour return policy, which Bob thinks Saturn as a manufacturer offers, then you can't take it back. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Nope. No state has a right of rescission on auto sales contracts. This is a common misconception.

A couple states require the seller to take the car back if it won't pass the state's safety inspection but that's about it. Most dealers will slap an inspection sticker on the vehicle before you take delivery so that generally kills that option.

A few states also recognize the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose that may help if a car breaks down completely very soon after the sale though you'll have to jump through a LOT of hoops to force a dealer under that concept.

But if it's a case of "buyer's remorse" then you're stuck with the car.

Dealers aren't required by law to give used car buyers a three-day right to cancel. The right to return the car in a few days for a refund exists only if the dealer grants this privilege to buyers. Dealers may describe the right to cancel as a "cooling-off" period, a money-back guarantee or a "no questions asked" return policy. Before you purchase from a dealer, ask about the dealer's return policy, get it in writing and read it carefully.

Depending on what state you are in there might be a three day law.

This would specific that by law you have three days to return a car from the date of purchase.

If one was to return the car now, you would get resale value for it and car prices go down tremendously after having been driven off the lot. It will probably be better if he can find a private seller for it.
