Recruiters are mostly liars. Mostly. I chose the Navy because the USN recruiter lied the least, lol. Anyways, he will have leave if he is NOT going to 'A' school or technical school after basic, about two days worth. If he's going to be trained on the base at Great Lakes to be a fireman, constructionman, or (I think) Boatswains mate then he'll get a day or two to stretch his legs then right back to work. If he's going to school, he won't get leave until he's been at school 30 days, and then only if he's graduated to the right phase by not screwing up!
As for the idiots talking about Iraq, The Navy is the LEAST likely to go there! We drive boats and jets, not tanks. Since the war began, only 72 sailors have lost thier lives, total, and many to "non-combat" causes, so have no fear. Hope this helped, now let me make one request... write him DAILY. Have everyone he knows write him DAILY! In fact, get off the internet right now and send him a note!!
Good luck, and give him a hello for me!

Nope. After he graduates from boot camp he goes straight to his "A" school wherever that is. When he is 100% done with "A" school THEN he gets his leave. Maybe if he is in boot camp now he will be in "A" school during Christmas, then and only then will he be able to take leave for the holiday. Don't be mad at the recruiter. Back in the day when lots of people didn't get "A" schools they could take leave right after boot camp. An upside though, if his "A" school is IN Great Lakes, IL, he will get to spend time with you the weekend after boot camp before his "A" school starts, but he will need to run a special request chit with his new BEQ and school to get approved for overnight visits out in town to be with you or his family if you go to his graduation.

ok, here's the deal. I was in the Navy (post desert storm) and my husband was in the Navy (during both desert wars). What usually happens is that they go to school right after boot camp. After school, they are typically granted some kind of leave to go home (to get their stuff for their permanent duty station). This leave can get charged to them (taken out of their yearly leave allowance) or they can work during their leave at a recruiting office and either only be charged half of their leave or none of it (depending on how much they work).

With the current situation...and the Navy...he most likely WILL NOT get shipped off right away to Iraq. Ships work in 6 month deployments (sometimes 9 months). He could have his first "tour" land...and not go anywhere near Iraq. Or his first duty tour can be sea (they alternate with every tour, one sea, one land, etc. but some lands count as seas...like Iceland). So yes, he will most likely be home...after school...not after boot camp...I don't know of anyone that has gone home after boot camp. The first tour is luck of the draw.

Hope that helps.

no leave is authorized between boot and A school unless it is during the 2 week holiday standdown between Christmas and new year's, and even then, it will be all out of pocket, and he will not have enough leave accrued, so he would be going into the hole.

generally speaking they can take leave between school and reporting to their first duty station, but generally speaking there isn't a lot of time they can take. you only earn 2.5 days per month.

He will likely have some time saved up but usually people go strait from boot camp to advanced training in their MOS. If the recruiter didn't put it in writing then he never said it.

Usually after boot camp they go straight to there school. Unless he is doing the home town recruiting thing. I'm not sure though.

He will...he'll get some time off before his training he is suppossed to get If the school hasn't started yet.
I did Back in the day and my son did...so it's not a lie....he only has to find a away home on his own.

It depends on his advanced training after boot camp. They can usually get leave, but if his specialty training starts right after basic, there's a chance he'll have to go there right away.
