Ok, I got my tooth pulled today and it was fine for a few hours but then I noticed this white looking thing in there and it didn't hurt or anything but shortly after I looked at it, it started to bleed, so I put some more gauze on it, then when I took the gauze out there was this little chunk of blood with the white thing in it, could that have been my clot?? Could I be getting dry socket now? And if I am when will the pain begin? Help I'm really scared.

PLEASE DO NOT BE SCARED. THIS IS A HEALING BLOOD CLOT AND MUST BE LEFT ALONE AND NOT DISTURBED.
IF YOU STILL FEEL PAIN TAKE 1-2 ADVIL AND THIS WILL FEEL BETTER IN ABOUT 1 HOUR.
DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING OVER THE EXTRACTION SITE AT THIS POINT BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE YOU TO LOSE THE CLOT -- AND THIS YOU DON'T WANT.

Hi! Please calm down. I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. The small blood may have just been a residue and the white is the tissue after the extraction. Just do NOT spit, rinse or suck on a straw or food. Eat cold, ice down and take any pain meds as needed. The clot is pretty big, so this is not it. BUT, be careful for the next 2 days. Eat soft bland foods, sleep with an extra pillow to prevent swelling and don't eat anything that is chewy, sticky or rough. For the most part a dry socket will hurt with-in 3 days, but I think you are okay. Start warm salt rinses after 24 hours and to this 3-4 times a day,the last at night before bed to promote healing and stop any infections. Just be kind to yourself and take it easy. Relax tomorrow, eat gently and you will be fine. If you have any other questions, please ask. M

When I got my wisdom teeth pulled i had the same problem. It was actually little pieces of tooth that were left in my gums. I was spitting out shards for 2 days. After that i didn't have any problems. Hope this helped
