What makes the difference between a "keeper" and a loser?

It has to be someone I can respect.
They have to have a sense of humor.
They have to be dependable.

In dependable, I mean that it has to be someone who will stay by your side no matter what. They have to be able to go the extra mile if you can't. They have to be able to pick up the slack when you can't. (for those that know me. My husband had to carry the load of everything around my house for 4 years while I could not) That is very important to me and he did not harbor any ill feelings towards me during the whole thing. I would do it for him too if I ever had to.

The inability to have any of these qualities would be the deal breaker.

1.Choice Compatibility (he likes what I like or is prepared to seek new areas of interest together)
2.Intelligence Match (we have the same intellectual level and so can sustain a decent conversation)
3.Sense of Humour (when the going gets tough the tough get laughing - the more offbeat SOH the better)

Are my top 3 signs of a keeper. If my mate doesn’t have those then he is by default a loser.

Goes for galfriends too I gues

1. Honesty
2. Honesty
3. Honesty

There are more, but you asked for the top three. Keepers don't lie to me, or if they do out of fear/hurt etc., they admit it and we talk about it. Dishonesty is the reason the last person I had a relationship with before my husby and I are no longer together. Of course, from that person's perspective, it's all my fault, so I suppose it depends on who you ask. But I can't deal with lying about lying, and in fact refuse to, so there you go.

Losers - not gonna get into that. There are way more than three reasons not to stay in a relationship, but dishonesty ranks up there first for me. I'd prefer to think of them as incompatible beings or imperfect beings just not imperfect in the same way I am though. (:

His ability to respect not only me but other people. Like, if he makes nasty, judgemental comments about anybody, he's out.

Honesty. If he can't tell the truth and be himself around me at the very least then who's to say he'll ever change?

Intelligence. I'm not looking for an Einstein, I just want a guy who knows what he's talking about instead of spewing random things that he thinks sound smart and who can spell like he actually paid attention in middle-school English classes. That really isn't a lot to ask, is it?
