I'm at a high school age, but I never went, and don't want to go, so would it be possible to join the SF with a GED once I'm old enough? Or should I just not bother with the SF? Anything else I should know?

Serious answers only, please.

CH, aren't you thinking of Delta?

To everyone else, GoArmy.com states that the army is letting civilians join the Special Forces. Does that only apply to people with HS diplomas?

I was the special forces (Green Beret) liaison at Fort Benning GA for Col Nick Rowe.....My job was to process special forces volunteers before they were sent to Fort Bragg...... volunteers must pass several tests.....including a swim test in full combat gear with weapon...... one volunteer could not swim.....every time he hit the water he went straight to the bottom and tried to walk !!!!. After hauling him out of the pool three times I told him I would give him just one more chance.....if he fail he was history..... over the Christmas holidays he took leave......NOT to go home but to check into a motel with a pool......He taught himself to swim and passed with flying colors......THE GREEN BERETS DO NOT WANT QUITERS..... join the boy scouts

Jon....You read one book and suddenly you are an expert on the Military Industrial Complex......of course war is a business.....but just because somebody makes a profit does not negate the reasons for war.....I suppose because some people made money off the civil war we should not have freed the slaves. You claim this war is for "resources" .....What resources?......all you have done is demonstrate your personal bias and your ignorance of the geopolitics and realities of the region.
You claim Germany did not attack America....That Germany had no plans to attack America.....you seem to forget the subversive operations the Germany conducted against us prior to declaring war on us..... including sabotures smuggled into America to attack our national defenses.....the spies and subversives organizing spy networks across America..... Do you really think once Hitler killed all the Jews and conquered Europe America would not be next?
"Japan attacked America because we cut off their oil supply" !!
Japan had raped half of Asia.....including Southeast Asia which is oil rich.....get a clue.....they attacked us to prevent our intrusion in their plans to conquer all of Asia......Japan had other sources of oil than America.
MMM..... You did not "go through the Vietnam war" You hid from the Vietnam war.....You claim this war is"Bush's Faux Pas" .....this is the ONLY justified war in over 60 years...We would not be in this war if a president with exactly your limp political point of view had just done his job when Iran invaded America in the 70's...It was time someone called a halt to over thirty years of attacks against America.....(notice there have been NO terrorist attacks against America in almost six years.....we used to average one attack every two months

Ok here it is..what you are thinking of is the Option 18 program. Your Mos would be 18X. you would go through BCT>Infantry AIT> AIRBRONE SCHOOL> SFAS> SFQC>The rest of the pipeline..

you really can join with a GED. You need an ASVAB line score GT of 110. Then join. I am not sure about Age requirements..its either 18 or 20. And GoArmy's website isnt working for me.

But it IS possible to join SF off the street.

You said it yourself, or did you? You have posed a conflicting question. The key phrase is "don't want to go". Go where? Your problem is you have no clue. You don't know what Special Forces is. Your education will matter only if you decide to add your body to the cannon fodder which is our nation's current non-directional policy. If I were you, I'd rather flip burgers as McDonalds than get involved in Bush's Faux Pas. Get a grip on reality. I'm going on 62 years old. I went through Viet Nam. I got into the National Guard and fortunately I was never sent into "real conflict". My sister works for the VA and treats vets who have lived through every war since WW2. The vets coming back from Iraq are so screwed up most of them don't know up from down. If that's the way you want to spend your life, dive in! Otherwise smarten up. Go back to school. To hell with the GED. That's a crutch. Life is a gamble at best, but if you go into the military nowadays, you just might lose your life. Is it worth it?

If you have a GED, you have to have a certain amount of infantry time before you can go to airborne school, which is a requirement of the Special Forces.

This is specific to Army. I don't know about the other branches.

I'm not sure if you can.

If it's questionable whether you want to join the SF, it wouldn't be the smartest thing to join and try just for the heck of it.

You'll have to speak another language, which may present a problem if you don't.

Talk with a recruiter. If they are short of a particular MOS, they can waive the usual requirements and guarantee you get into Special Forces training.

Whether you pass and are actually assigned to a special forces team, or have to practice that MOS with a regular unit depends on you.

But don't believe me. It's been a few years since I kept up on these things.
Chat with a recruiter at the link below.

Please rethink this. Why do you want to do this? I thought I wanted to join the marine corp straight our of highschool. I had no idea what I wanted from life and I thought that the marines would toughen me up,get me in shape, etc. I don't really know what I was thinking. Now I'm grown up and thank god I didn't join up. I think most of the attraction was the idea of being part of something admirable. But its a GD lie!

Don't listen to these idiots who say without the military, we'd have no freedom, we'd be speaking German, bla bla bla.

To what specifically are they referring. WW 2? Germany never had plans to attack the U.S.. Japan attacked first only because we provoked them (by trying to cut off their oil supply). No, you'd have to go back to the revolutionary war to talk about protecting freedom - and these were militias. All modern wars are fought for resources - the U.S. included. Read the book by Smedley Butler (marine general) War is a Racket if you don't believe me (its only 60 or so pages). Do you want to be a shill for the corporations, give a leg for Exxon? Lose your soul for Nike?

Find companionship somewhere else. Do you really want to kill someone - you'll never be the same. If you want to see true heroes look at the soldiers who refuse to fight in this war for resources.

Get your *** in gear and buckle down in school. You are about to royally screw up.

To all the idiots who think our soldiers are giving us our freedom - please go read some books. You are an embarassment to this country.

If we didn't have a military - where would we be today? You believe that other countries wouldn't take advantage to "colonize" us?
