Hi! This will not be enough if the nerve is infected and you have a deep cavity. Ideally you need to see a dentist as soon as you can. Tylenol extra strength will help but you may need something more. Tramadol may help for awhile. The best thing is to get a dentist's exam and get the right medication and treatment as soon as you can. The best treatment is to have the tooth treated and the pain relieved and not have to bear any pain what so ever. Good luck!! M

Just some basic information. Tramadol (Ultracet) is used for moderate pain. Percocet is a stronger pain killer. Emergency rooms are not equipped with dentists. The most they can do for you is prescribe other pain killers and an antibiotic for inflammation of abscesses. I'm surprised that your dentist does not have any "emergency" time available. I'd call them again and explain the intense pain that you're experiencing. If they can't accommodate you any sooner than next month, then you really should look for a dentist that has more time available for emergencies.

Tramadol is a fairly good pain med for mild to moderate pain.
Depending on how badly your tooth hurts and what is wrong with it, will determine whether or not you need something stronger, like Vicodin 10/650. Percocet and Percodan can cause awful hallucinations and terrible dreams, and yet, it still
may not be strong enough to get that tooth pain under control.
First, you need to make an appt. asap with a dentist to find out just exactly why the tooth hurts. Then the dentist can tell you what needs to be done and whether it needs to be done by an Oral Surgeon. Some teeth which are exposed to open nerves react negatively to many stimuli, such as heat, cold, touch and you may not get enough pain relief. You may need an Oral Surgeon to do a root canal or extract this tooth, and
you may need something stronger medication wise, but you won't know for sure until you find out exactly what is causing the problem, sweetie, and then know how to deal with your nagging, aggravating, "pain-in-the mouth and butt" problem.

Ocassionally, people need will need morphine for a couple of days until they are able to go down to a lower strength pain medicine once you have that problem tooth fixed properly and under control. Hang in there, but get in to see a good dentist asap before it gets really bad and your pain becomes unbearable.
I hope you manage to have a nice holiday season! :-)
