I found out today that a lot of my beliefs kind of match up with a lot of deeper Mormon beliefs...ok this surprised the hell out of me you better believe it...so i was wondering, before I decide to call the Mormon church down the street I would ask all you wonderful people (I dont know why) what you thought of the Mormons, and the pros and cons, ups and downs, good and bad sides of being Mormon :)

“They also believe there are some sins too great for the blood of Christ to cover them. Joseph Smith states "But man may commit certain grievous sins- according to his light and knowledge- that will place him BEYOND the reach of the atoning blood of Christ. If then he would be saved he must make sacrifice of his own life to atone- so far as in his power lies- for that sin, for the blood of Christ alone under certain circumstances will not avail." (Ibid. pp. 133-134)”
He was giving an opinion. That was all. I don’t think that blood atonement was even taught after Brigham Young died.
Ignore anyone who quotes the Journal of Discourses. They are not doctrine.
"God lives on the planet Kolob?"
Kolob is not a planet, it is a sun
"Baptism for the dead (at least for dead white people)"
We baptize regardless of race. I personally have baptized people from all over the world and from many races.
"Magic underwear"
It isn’t magic. It won’t save anyone from anything, unless God wants it too. It is a physical remind of covenants we make in the temple and to help us remain modest.
"The founder (Joseph Smith) had dozens of wives."
34, I believe is the correct amount. The only one that I am aware that he had sex with is his wife, Emma.
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me.

I am an ex Mormon. It's true that the Mormons have deep insight to things that most religions don't. This is a good reason to study Mormonism, but not to join. Don't let any belief system fill in the blanks for you. There are many things that are not "true" about the Mormon church, and it's a church who claims that if they are not 100% right, they are wrong. That's a great selling point, but the truth is that they are just right about a lot of things. It is considered a sin to do anything the president of the church says not to do, and every general conference brings new things that the president says not to do. This means there are new sins every year. One of the newest sins is wearing open toed shoes to church. You can see how this is becoming an opressive cycle. Conspiuous "sins" such as drinking and smoking are considered as being just worse than adultry and such. There are many other faults I could point out. The point is, you should forge your own path. Then again, if you just need social kinship, go ahead and join. There's plenty of that with the Mormons.

You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed. I think learning about Mormonism from actual Mormons (from Mormon missionaries, from Mormon members, or from sites created and maintained by Mormons on the Internet) is much better than trusting second-hand information.
Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:
1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.
Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

Hope this helps! Mormonism has changed my life. Good luck with your research!

I know several Mormon families so I feel like I have a pretty good feeling for both sides. Mormons are very family oriented and take their faith seriously without being overly preachy or condescending. As far as negatives, it comes down to whether you believe Joseph Smith (I think that was his name) was a great man of God who was given the Book of Mormon by God or not. That's my biggest issue. I don't really think he is but again, that's my opinion. Another bad is if you get married, it's in one of the temples and your family cannot attend the ceremony unless they are Mormon. They have to wait outside. You may not be at that point but it's something to think about. Good luck!

Their theology does not hold up to any rigor. The good parts of it are all taken directly from Christianity.
- God lives on the planet Kolob?
- Baptism for the dead (at least for dead white people)
- Magic underwear
- The founder (Joseph Smith) had dozens of wives
Go with a legit Christian religion instead.

I would suggest looking at what Mormons really believe.
This is a site from an exmormon.
http://www.exmormon.net/nice.html
They believe some rather strange things:
Celestial heaven is near a star called Kolob.
Black people were cursed with their black skin because of their inferiority in the pre-existent life.
Native American Indians are really Israelites who were cursed with red skin because of their sin.
Especially read about Joseph Smith and How the Church was founded.

Extreme beliefs - such as wearing sacred underwear, having marriage for eternity, controlling your own planet of souls after death, being pregnant and giving birth to souls for eternity (for women believers), not being able to be married in The Temple if your mate isn't Mormon or one of you "sinned" recently and not being able to have your family attend your wedding in the Temple if they aren't Mormons.
Those of a few of the things I have a problem with the Mormon religion.
Hearing God's word from some old man in Utah is another.

Given that it ranks high on the "made-up-o'meter", not to mention that it incororates much of Fremasonry rituals, I'd be very hesitant to put any faith in it.
I suggest you seriously research its history from an objective source. I'd also read both pro and con websites and books - WARNING do so from an objective point of veiw, do not just accept the things you like or believe.
