It's uncertain, but the traditional view is that he was beheaded on the Ostian Road outside Rome in the mid-60's A.D. See the first link below for further discussion, and the second for a dramatic account.

Paul was executed by the Romans. As he was a Roman citizen, he had the right to die by the sword. He was decapitated. Otherwise, maybe he would have been crucified, as Apostle Peter was.

Chuck Norris did a flurry of spin kicks fast enough to warp time and go back to Paul's age. Then, he found Paul and roundhouse kicked him to death, but not before he made Paul write in the Bible that Jesus had a perfectly groomed beard, just like Chuck's.

Ahhh.. Paul shot himself - in the year 60 A.D. about 1750 years before the use of gunpowder.
We can believe the reliability of all answers given here.
After 3 extensive missionary trips, several times in prison and 2 shipwrecks he was executed for his faith and ministry.
