It will be okay as long as FOX carries it, but then once they stop and the other networks take over, it will slide as always. But one thing to remember most fans had rather be at the track anyway... Please dump Rusty ABC/ESPN.. I plan on going to more races next yr..

It will remain the same. As convenient as it is to blame the ratings slide on Brian France and the Chase, the reality is that NASCAR sucked in a few casual fans who got on the Junior bandwagon back around '04 and jumped off when he stopped winning. The only direction NASCAR on TV could go was down. NASCAR still outdraws just about everything but the NFL.
As much as traditionalists would have you believe they've given up on NASCAR, that's B.S. when you consider how much time they spend in this forum pining for the old days. If they really didn't care, they'd stop posting and go on to something else. The truth is that their love for auto racing is bigger than their disdain for France, the COT, the Chase and the perceived "Vanilla Twins."
I'll admit the sport could use another Earnhardt Senior, A Tiger Woods type to elevate casual fan interest. I don't know if Junior's that guy. Stewart could be.
Johnson needs a honest-to-God rival and the best candidates simply aren't good enough or ballsy enough to pull a Dale on him.

Only if ABC/ESPN continues to cover it. I don't quite understand why NASCAR insists on splitting coverage three ways when two of the current annual coverage holders have more than expressed their interest in making it a full season. An even better question to ask is; why is the worst coverage on the most important part of our season (The Chase)? Every year the huge networks (NBC/ABC) have fouled our championship season up with shoddy coverage that focuses far more on sponsor placement than racing.
I can't even count how many missed restarts, missed cautions, and missed... well everything I've witnessed this season. I have to run my computer simultaneously to get full coverage. The sport's popularity is hitting all-time records in retail and ticket sales. Other forms of coverage (online, Fanscan, other NASCAR films/shows) are on the rise as well. Yet the actual race coverage is dropping.
The Daytona 500 is one of the country's most watched sporting event (second to the Super Bowl). Yet our "championship" coverage drops. It doesn't take a marketing genius to see where the trouble lies. The ratings are low because of the coverage.

Unless Nascar does something to stop the ESPN coverage from being retarded all the time, it will.
