Just a revised version of a very ignorant answer posted earlier
They believe that an angel was sent to someone named Joseph Smith in the early 1900s (like 1920s or shortly after) and was told how to run the church.
They don't believe in talking about John the Baptist
**WRONG** John the Baptist is a key figure in the restoration of the church, and baptism is a HUGE thing in our church.
They think it's a sin to drink
They think that Jesus did not make wine at a wedding, but He made and drank grape juice.
**WRONG** Where did you even hear that?
They use water for communion
Instead of consecrated bread for communion, they use regular white bread (what we buy from the stores)
**WRONG** It's store-bought, but it is blessed by the priesthood.
They believe in people keeping extra cans of food in their pantries at home, and rack them up, so that if there's a disaster, they can share food with others
They believe in having family meeting night on Monday night at their homes
**wrong...well sortof** It's family home evening where the kids, and parents, get together and read the scriptures, tatch TV or play some games together...it can be any night of the week, even Sunday.
They are BIG on tracing their genealogy. They are strongly urged to do so, even if people the congregation is related to find it painful to talk about family roots.
They fast the first Sunday (maybe the Saturday before as well) of each month so to give money to the needy needing help getting food.
**Sortof wrong again** It's not JUST to give the money to the needy, but we fast for a purpose, fasting is one step above regular praying. It's showing God that something is important to us and that we're willing to sacrifice something for it.
They don't really concentrate on the Bible much; they talk more from the Book of Mormoms
**WRONG** First it's the Book of Mormon. Second, we do talk about the BoM alot, but we also talk about the bible alot as well, and D&C and PGP
They feel they are the ONLY ones authorized to baptize.
They feel they are the only true church and the rest are false
They do not believe in hell, but they believe in heaven. They believe in three stages of celestial (I'm not sure if I got celestial right), where there's the sun which is being with God, the moon, where people did o.k., but could have done better, and the stars, which is the bottom stage, where people did not gain favor at all. I don't have much info on this concept.
**WRONG** We DO believe in Hell and the Devil. We call Hell the "outer darkness" as someone else mentioned. It's where those who did not accept the gospel are away from God.
This person mutilated our beliefs on the glories. www.mormon.org talks about it very well.
There's a place, The Temple, and only people with the cleanest of lifestyles get to go because Jesus walked through the Temple Himself.
**Wrong** You don't have to be living the "cleanest of lifestyles" to get a recommend...you just have to be worthy to enter the temple. If you have any specific questions you can email me if you want more info on what that means. And not just Jesus, but God also...it's God's house.
The age of acountability is 8, and that's the earliest age people can get baptized
People who are members of the congregations are called "saints", but it's nothing special.
Everyone in the congregation call each other "Brother (person's name) and Sister (person's name)
They only marry other mormoms.
**WRONG** My best friend's sister married a presbyterian. So did my friends mother, but her dad is a member now.
They don't believe in using caffeine
They don't smoke
**kindof wrong** We believe in free agency(aka free will) and if you want to smoke, drink, use caffeine, etc. that's your choice. I drink Coke and Pepsi all the time. My mom smokes.

As I said before, if you have any questions, I can answer them.

huge question. I'd suggest reading "Mormon America" by Ostling (husband and wife team). It's really balanced and extremely well researched. Basically Mormons believe Jesus came to south america and revealed his message to the people there, but then their culture and beliefs were lost until Joseph Smith was visited by God the Father, and Jesus. Then the Angel Moroni told him where to find the plates where all this 'history' is recorded. The translation of those plates is the book of mormon. Mormons do believe that when a mormon man holding the priesthood dies, he becomes like God, and rules over his own universe, populating it with his "spiritual" children. They do not believe in the trinity in the traditional sense. Beyond that, they believe in continuing public revelation, which is why, as a church, many policies are able to be legitimately reversed (black men in the priesthood, eg.) Other than that, you really should do some reading, or find a mormon friend, but stay away from the missionaries. They're really nice, but will only tell you that God was a man just like us, the story of J.S. and a few passages from the BoM. None of it is very useful.

Mormons believe in God and his son, Jesus Christ. Mormons believe the Angel, Moroni, appeared to Joseph Smith, when he was a young man, and revealed to him some things that had not been included in the Bible most Christians accepted as the ultimate word.
Mormons do not reject the Christian Bible; but, they also have the Book of Mormon, which, along with the Bible advocates a life dedicated to loving one another and providing for family and community.

That Joseph Smith restored the church to the original church Jesus built. They believe in the Book Of Mormon as another testament of Jesus Christ. It is considered the most correct book on the earth. They also have the Holy Bible,Doctrine& Covenants, and Pearl Of Great Price as Holy Scripture. They believe in 3 levels of Heaven, referred to as glories. The Celestial, Terrestrial, &Telestial. They refer to Hell as Outer Darkness. Only a very few,I forget who, will go there. They believe they can become Gods someday as God is, if they live worthily. Polygamy will be lived in Heaven along w/eternal families. Also, childbearing in Heaven can continue forever. They don't smoke, use alcohol, have premarital sex, drink coffee,or tea. They are family oriented. That's all I can think of. By the way, I'm a non-member. I have some close friends who are members. Good Night!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others, however. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed. I think learning about Mormonism from actual Mormons (from Mormon missionaries, from Mormon members, or from sites created and maintained by Mormons on the Internet) is much better than trusting second-hand information.
Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:
1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.
Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

Hope this helps! Mormon Christianity has changed my life by helping me better follow Jesus Christ.

Watch this. It's a very biased but factually accurate account of the Mormon religion.

The South Park episode pretty much captures it.
P.S. Give me a thumbs down if you're LDS and you think Joseph Smith was a douche bag.
