WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SING A SONG FROM THE MUSIC MAN

I have plenty of experience auditioning for things and I can tell you that song selection is the most important thing about an audition. That said, my first thought was to suggest a song from another musical. I think that would show the judges that you are ready and able to perform the repertoire in "The Music Man".

There are quite a few baritone roles in major musicals. A few include Billy Flynn in "Chicago", Curly from "Oklahoma", Captain von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" and Mark Cohen from "Rent". If I had to suggest one single song, I think "Oh, what a Beautiful Morning" from Chicago may be a good one - and not too large of a range (one and a half octaves).

I wish you luck with your audition and hoped this was a little help!

You really need a "patter" song to audition for Professor Hill. Try "Why Can't the English" from My Fair Lady, or "Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

i think it's best to sing a song from the play/role you're auditioning for, or at least from another musical. pieces from musicals tend to show your vocal range better.

try musicnotes.com. you can order/download sheet music there for a small fee.

and don't wait until the last minute - get a bunch of different songs ready and keep the sheet music in a notebook. that way, you'll always be prepared when another audition comes up.

If you're a solid tenor with some baritone timbre - take one out of Camelot and do "If Ever I Would Leave You" or from Carousel and do "If I Loved You"

Both are period musicals and very like the Prof. Hill parts.

Playing Hill is a lot of fun - break one!
