Jim, if he is able to pick up pieces of food on his own then offer some chopped fruits and vegetables. My captive bred cockatoos favour grapes, apple and corn. You can also offer small amounts of cooked rice, pasta or whole grain bread. Cooked oatmeal or similar cooked breakfast cereals can also be given. You might need to spoon a very small amount into his beak to get him started. He may have just fledged and is still relying on his parents to put food directly in his mouth.

Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm

That site has links for rehabbers in the US, and many foreign countries, including Australia.

Licensed wildlife rehabilitators have the specialized training needed to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. They also have any and all required permits and licenses to keep the wild animals until they are healthy enough to be released into the wild.

I don't know what the laws are in your countyr; in the US, it is illegal to have any native migratory bird unless you have the proper permits.

A rehabber will be able to tell you if you can keep the bird yourself and care for it, or if it is illegal for you to have it.

If it is legal, the rehabber will educate you in the care of the young bird. If you can not legally have it, you will have to take it to the rehabber, so the bird can be cared for properly until it can be released back with his flock.

It is EXTREMELY important to consult a licensed rehabber, who will not only know how and what to feed the bird, but will know how to keep it from becoming too tame, and turning into a pet that can never be released back into the wild.
