I have a solo within a song during our chorus show tomorrow. I can sing pretty decently until I get nervous, and then my voice gets shaky and ugly. I try to control it and talk myself out of it, but I can't ever seem to shake it off in time to sing! this happens during almost every solo I've ever had. What are some things I can do to not get nervous?

yes but E doc, I don't have a whole song to get into it! I only have 8 measures.

What, are you kidding me?

Most people can't even speak in front of other people let alone sing. You'll probably get some good advice here, but truly you ought to realize how strong you are not to go running away off stage.

I don't know much about singing, but you'll see a lot of politicians take a deep breath and exhale slowly just before they start. Then again they're getting ready to BS people so they should be nervous.

To be completely honest, I've been singing solos my entire life (weekly) and i still get nervous each and every time, but i find it helps IMMENSELY if i practice like crazy before hand so the only thing i have to focus on is.. well.. not running off the stage. Yes, the old "don't look at the audience in the face" thing helps but you still know they're there. I just do my best to know my piece and not have a stressful day so that that's the only thing I'm focused on.

I think its great that you singing in front of an audience! Confidence is key, Also smile and be happy you have been given the opportunity, Practice in front of people (the more times you sing in front of people the less nervous you get), Take some herbal remedy to calm your nerves Hope this helped, Abbie <3

Never look at the crowd, look over their heads and let go with your song. The nervousness ends after you get into the song.
