That would be considered a median base curve. When you start getting into the 8.2 and 8.3 basecurves you are fitting steeper corneal curvatures. 8.5 to 8.7 is pretty much middle of the road. When you start getting around 9.0 you're definitely trying to fit a flatter than average curvature. Hope this helped.

Oh, and as to the comment that no contact comes in an 8.5 base curve --- the Soflens 66 toric comes in an 8.5 basecurve.

Well, Technically, none of them have that base curve. IF your base curve is supposed to be an 8.5 and you want colored lenses, or other lenses by Wesley-Jessen, you might have to have your doctor write and RX for the right kind of lens you need for the steepness of your cornea. Guessing is dangerous and potentially harmful.

Median. But don't buy contacts from a truck stop or anything. If you want contacts go to an optometrist. Incorrect fitting lenses can cause corneal abrasions.

Depends on the brand of lens and its diameter.
