Adding sugar adds unecessary calories but doesn't necessarily destroy the nutrients. Heat on the other hand might destroy the vitamin C and other nutrients but to what 'degree' ? (sorry couldn't resist the pun)

A cup of jam would have the nutrition of maybe one fresh strawberry.

First of all making jam requires high heat that destroys many nutrients.

Second a cup of jam may have as much a 2 1/2 cups of dissolved sugar... or worse... high fructose corn syrup.

Look at the list of ingredients You will see that sugar is listed before strawberries in your average jar of jam... That tells you there is more sugar than any other ingredient.

Common sense tells us that fresh fruit is always better. As for the added sugar in jam, I always add sugar on top my fresh strawberry's anyway. However, I don't think strawberry jam offers the same nutritional value as fresh strawberries. Fresh strawberries contain V A, V B, Iron, and Calcium. Some jams offer lower numbers of V C, and that's it.

NO way, the jam contains all kinds of sugars and preservatives. Fresh fruit is always better.
