I applied for tons of jobs from valeting though to sales with nearly every major car manufacturer and got turned down, mostly on the grounds of lack of industry experience, which I couldn't get because no-one would hire me! Eventually after persistent nagging as to what I was doing wrong was told by a retired BMW and Subaru dealer principle that research shows that generally customers don't want to buy cars from women because they think men know more about them. My dad is a big shot at another car manufacturer and he says this is true, but women apply less for sales jobs.

Men are seen as more agressive than females. Cars are big investments. I wonder if you see more females selling homes, because that is even a bigger investments with a lot of emotion behind it, because that is a home. Cars, guys are more into than woman. I think that is why there are more males selling cars than females. Personally I have never seen a female car salesperson. Maybe in Reception area, but not out and telling people about the cars.

Umm to be honest, women tend to be too sweet or too nice so I wouldn't want to buy from them. With a male, you know their up to no good (most of the time) so for males, we are more aggressive because we know it's survival of the fittest when it comes to the price of the car. Also a lot of men wouldn't accept a females thoughts on car because she is not a male. What I will say is that I think female salesperson's would be VERY successful if they sale to another woman.

I would never want to work at a car dealership. It just doesn't sound appealing to me. Mainly because you have to be an a persistent a-hole, I'm not interested in cars and it just seems like it would be a boring unfulfilling job to hound people on a car lot. Sometimes on tv I see women in skimpy clothes advertising the cars and talking about them, but I don't think they actually work at the dealership.

In the UK, you tend to get more women sales assistants in 'high-end' showrooms selling luxury cars, they can get money out of rich people with greater ease than some smarmy-ar*ed little oik that thinks he's god's gift.
I'd far rather deal with a female salesperson.

Me, Me, me....BMW ...brand new "Bavarian Motor Works" and I enjoyed it and know that car from the ground up.
Selling BMW's is a breeze..your buyers come to you....they already know the product.
You know your a good car salesperson when:
A potential owner steps on the lot and is in-between a Lexus, a Mercedes or a BMW...in one hour they are writing you a check for 80K+...that's when you know your good!
Oh, in the US there is allot of women selling exotic cars...it's easy on the eyes..but, she better be "one of the sharper tools in the shed" ...pretty/dumb won't get you sales...not when it comes to people's money. Note: It helped that I play Golf, and was familiar with the game. It also helped that I grew up with a Mechanic.

My husband is a manager is a car dealership and his boss is a woman, he also has two women in sales selling the cars, I admit its not common, but women can be petrol-heads too.
personally, cars bore me. For me, cars are red, blue, black, big, flat, small or sporty. And thats it. When my husband goes on about brake horse power and such things, my brain just tunes out.
Though i do like watching top gear, Richard Hammond is georgeous.

I have seen one female car salesperson. She cared more about the style of the car, and I probably knew more about the car then she did.
