The best thing I can suggest is go to a dermatologist and see what they say. Good luck!

Do they have little transparent wings? if so they may be the fly that causes Morgellons .. lice and scabies are mites wingless insects .. stop using any chemicals .. wash everything with 20 mule borax no bleach and no pesticides around you
go to morgellons.org you may develop some symptoms
we have no clue what this insect is but it seems to be the vector that carries morgellons . I hope I am wrong though feel better ( bug lights in your home may help lesson the fly colony)

I was going to suggest bed bugs too. I don't know much about them but last year around the time that the majority of leases were turning over in Boston there was an outbreak in certain neighborhoods because people were leaving them behind in old apartments so they new people got them, and also transferring them to new apartment on luggage, beds, and furniture.

I know you also said you don't think they are fleas but you can easily buy a flea bomb at a petstore and at least try that to rid yourselves of these critters. Good luck!

Sounds like bedbugs to me. Do you have a wooden bedframe? They love to live in the cracks and grains. If you do, look for very small brown splotches on it, that's the excreted dried blood!

Soak in the hottest possible bath you can stand. Stay there for long time. Refresh hot water often.

Or
you can grease yourself up with Vaseline, olive oil, veg. oil, etc. They would never be able to survive.

Probably fruit flies. UGH. Hate them. Get rid of the fruit, put it in your fridge.
