While exercising at the gym I have often wondered how a woman would feel if a guy asked them out to dinner or coffee.
Do women mind or is it improper etiquette?

It is more important as to how you ask rather than the location where you ask. Hence, if there is any woman in the gym that you want to ask out, go right ahead.Just employ the correct etiquette in asking her; if she likes you ,you are in luck. I wish you all the best.

As long as she looks like she's comfortable being approached - girls hate being stalked at the gym! Hence all the girls only gyms now!

Don't ask her out when she is lifting a weight. You can ask her out when she is packing up and about to leave the gym!

I don't see why you shouldn't. They won't look as all fixed up and they will think you are still attractive, that is a very good starter to me.======

You need to make sure you are very casual about it, and back off immediately if she looks uncomfortable.
