Corner to corner. Top left to bottom right to be exact.

I look at the shape of the bread and cut accordingly
If the bread is somewhat rectangular I would cut it in half of the long side.
If it is square then I might cut diagonally. As I said, it depends on the shape of the bread.

I like to cut my sandwiches corner to corner. The firm crust hold everything in place. I like to grill my sandwiches also!
