Calories are usually on the sides of boxes or on the back of packages (items wrapped in plastic). If you go to a fast food joint, they have calories listed in pamphlets, on their walls or even on their websites (ask, if that doesn't bother you).
You know how people wanting to lose weight stayed away from carbs (Atkins diet)? Well, I'd say that is the main way to go. Bagels, cereal (esp. oats), sliced bread, buns...you name it. Carbs pack plenty of calories so you don't have to eat unbelievable amounts of food. A large bagel, for instance, has about 400 calories.
It is also good to focus on whole wheat breads. They are healthier than white breads and usually have a few more calories. And eat fruits (bananas 250 cal in one large, Large apple 150)
Avoid fried foods, and excessive sweets and chocolates. Using these items to gain weight will give you health problems like high blood pressure.
I hope this helps. I could go on and on, but wanna keep this short. Good Luck!!
Avoid candy bars

Usually on the top, it shows "per serving" and then gives the calories and fat, etc. Don't just look at the calories, see the fat grams and sodium and sugar content too. All of those matter.

the calories are usually on the side of the box of food. on bags, they are on the backside.
try eating meat if you want to gain weight. fatty meats such as steak/sirloin and ground beef (15 or 20 percent fat) will gradually put weight on you.
