And you were not mature, intelligent or professional enough to be prepared enough to have a couple backs ups on different mediums? It was deleter? Off a company mainframe or server? And no one could 'recover' it from the IT dept? Where was it deleted from, a personal storage unit?

What's done is done. Taking revenge on your coworker will definitely show that you are not a good candidate for promotion. Just handle the situation super professionally.

Revenge is never a good idea. It's hard, but you have to let it go. As they say, what goes around comes around. Be a better person than your coworker, and rewards will come to you.
