Traditionally either Rum (if you're in the east coast of North America) and I'd recommend "Gosling's Black Seal" or "Meyers's" rums, or Bourbon whiskey like "Cobb Creek", or "Makers Mark" (if you are at all west of the Appalachian mountains then whiskey it is).

But maybe you want to try vodka or passion fruit liqueur, or Japanese sake? Go ahead, the best one is the one you like and F--- whatever anyone else says!

I would go with a spiced rum. But have heard of people using whiskey or southern comfort too. Whatever tastes best to you.

I like my eggnog booze-free, but rum is traditionally used in eggnog.
