Yes, the cars in IRL are faster. I agree with all the other answers above me. I saw the IRL practicing at Texas a few years back when I went to a Craftsman truck race and they were flying. Besides a NHRA dragster at 330mph the Irl cars are the fastest thing I have ever witnessed. Before you knew it they were leaving turn 2 and you blinked once and they were at the start/finish line again.

Yes they maybe faster...but they lack big time in popularity the only thing that is going to save IRL is more cars and geez Danica win a dang race thing all the hype will focus back on IRL..I've been to some IRL races dang they try to drive these things like Nascar, I saw Dario do one of his drives upside down this year..I was happy when he walked away..I think I was more scared than Ashley..Guess she's happy he is in a safer car now..But yes IRL cars are faster...

They can maneuver quicker no doubt. But to answer your question as it is in the Nascar Section The IRL cars are faster because they weigh less than 1/2 what a Nascar Stock car weighs. They have higher rear wings for the downforce and front wings which help them turn quicker and stick to the track. Not to mention IRL cars having wider front and rear tires. But the Weight factor is where the speed comes from. Put an 850 Horsepower engine in a Semi and put one in a full sized pickup who will run up to speed quicker and be Faster!!!!!!

Yes, IRL cars are faster..... BUT NASCAR is a lot more popular because in open wheel, there's not tradin' paint- that's what makes things exciting

Why are IRL cars faster:
-lighter cars
-lower chasis
-multiple wings for added down force
-wider rear tires for increased grip
-computers diagnose everything (drivers can be dumb as a rock)

Yes they are a lot faster, I live not far from the Indy 500 track
and attended some races in the 50`s and 60`s the cars were so fast they were a blur when they came past me, I was a lot younger then and at a big race there are a lot of distracting
things to look at(for young eyes) most races you didn`t know who the winner was until you were in the car on your way home. The big money people got the good seats..
don`t know they got to see everything I did tho.

That is like asking if you dodged a falling tree in the woods and nobody was around to see it does it really matter?

IRL is slowly suffering, a long, drawn out, painful death! The only good thing for the IRL is that with a bunch of their best drivers leaving the series, maybe just maybe the IRL Princess herself can back into a win? I'd think I could win in a race between my mother-in-law and myself!

YES! I guess you are talking about NA$CAR? Then yes loads faster.
Maybe you should move this question I see a lot of NA$CAR people are having trouble with excepting the fact. They are wanting to believe that you asked a different question that you did or something. I am not sure what they read for the question.
A yes or no would have done not who is popular or I see one even thought NA$CAR was entertaining. Like NA$CAR has close races. There close races happen when the flag person sets up the green white checker.

Racing is much more than just the ability to maneuver at high speed!

Yes, IRL is the fastest closed circuit racing there is. However speed doesn't necessarily put fans in the stands according to the information. Actually, I tend to feel that WRC is the most demanding racing there is.

Actually, I believe that the point of racing is reaching the finish line first.
