Ak-47's can fire under almost any conditions, but aren't very reliable or accurate. SKS rifles are a little more fun to use. M4's and M16's have their detractors, but they're the bread-and-butter of our military and they're quite easy to learn to use and to care for. M4's are nice because they're a lot easier to maneuver with. I've fired other weapons, but none of those were rifles.

The M-1 Garand. From an engineering standpoint, it is such a cool design. It addressed many problems that even modern rifle designs have yet to find a better solution for. It is a sturdy, comfortably design, and it empowers the users with a sense of rugged, combat ability. A joy to shoot and very powerful, it can accurately hit targets at long range, and dump it's entire 8-shot clip as fast as you can pull the trigger. I've always wondered what the German soldier with a bolt action Mauser thought when being rushed by a Soldier using an M-1.
The M-14 is cool too, but, it's basically an M-1 with more ammo to shoot!

I fired 3 guns when I was in the Navy, 1959-1963. In boot camp we fired the M1 Garand. I qualified as a marksman at 200 yards. It was an impressive rifle. Of course you had to learn how to load it without getting an M1 thumb.
I also fired the 1911 .45 automatic.
The biggest rifle I had my hand on one of the triggers was the 5"/38 on the destroyer I was on. We could send those 5" projectiles 10 miles.

M-14....Has a great balance, the entire but is a weapon.Doesn't feel like your gone to break it if you drop it like the M-16 feels. The 308 Win cartridge is a hard hitting and flat shooting round. It does not break up or tumble if it hits a tree limb. I penetrates and tears the target a new one.Accurized versions the M-21 are still used by Seal teams today.
I own a civilian version ,the receiver has been replaced to render it semi only. Be the rest of it is original H&R M-14 parts.I compeditive shoot and hunt with it every hunting season.

I like the AN-94 Abakan. Its just well, sweet. Its accurate, rugged as an AK and has a 2 shot cyclic rate of 1800 RPM (for going though body armour) It is only issue to special opeartors. But now and then, if I am lucky, I get to fire it on the range.

Alas, I am stuck with an Ak-74 for now, and when I am lucky, I get to use the AK-103, which is my number two. Its the AK-47, but done in all modern materials.

M-14. I've carried or shot pretty much everything we currently have in our arsenal. When I got my hands on one, I kept it. The action is nice and solid (not too much worry with sand and dust). It is a much more powerful round than the 5.56mm, shoots flatter farther. I'm 6'0 and 210lbs, so the extra weight was irrelevant, and the extra length was actually better for me. It also was more well balanced. It just felt like a real mans weapon, and I knew I could always count on it to get the job done.

The B.A.R. or Browning Auto-matic rifle. Its bullets are about a 30 to 40 caliber and are stronger than the Tommy gun (Thompson). It can tear throgh tough car metal and has the auto and semi auto options. This was also the main weapon of Bonnie and Clyde. It can be modified i.e. cut the barrel, cut the butt, adding grips, etc. Though its out of commision this gun was a formidable foe

i grew up in a chriatian home,my father a preacher, and also a dedicated gunsmith.i grew up shooting military weapons as he kind of collected them.we shot 8mm german mousers a lot, mainly because they were cheap and ammo was also cheap and plentiful at the time.its comparable to a 30-06,and has a nearly indestructable bolt action magazine, but didnt seem to be real accurate.still,i have many fond memmories of that gun.he also had an m1carbine,which wasnt real powerful, but was deadly accurate.and later on came the sks, which appeared to have plenty of knockdown power and accuracy.i guess id say the sks would be my weapon of choice for those reasons.

The M-14. When they issued the AR 15 a lot of us kept the longer rifle becaus it at least had stopping power whereas the AR15 didn't.

M203 (M16 with 40mm grenade launcher) The weight is not to bad, the launcher stabilizes the weapon when shooting from the prone and you can drop a grenade round on top of the other guy when he is hiding in a ditch 200 meters away.
