Have you ever heard the cowboy riddle "Good Saddles ain't cheap, and cheap saddles ain't good" ? Don't go to the cheapest guy in town. Look for a reasonably priced private practice dr. (Not Walmart Vision, or Lenscrafters. Why? They herd you through like cattle and say "which one is better, once." Your chances of coming out with a perscription that is not exact in a chain or bargain place is very high. Save bargin places for buying your contacts because they will be the same. (1) Call and price check private practices (ask how long the dr. has been practicing), then ask if they give a discount for private pay. They almost always do but don't advertise it. (2) Ask for a copy of your perscription (then you can take the RX and get them filled at Costo or 1800 contacts for about 2-3 dollars less per box. Trust me, private practice is the way to go. Expect to pay about 150-160 for a contact exam compared to 100-120 at a chain. Its worth the difference trust me.

Ask friends and co-workers for referral and their opinion then check those names against your vision insurance if you have any to see who is a covered provider. Good luck!
