Those thoughts and ideas are given substance by turning them into real products that we can see and use. The idea comes first. We then actualize it into a finished product which can be detected by our other five senses. It might be said that we are converting energy into matter; and at some point, vice versa. Scientists already know that energy and matter are interchangeable. Keep your thinking cap on man.

They are a different type of substance - they are formed from electricity and chemical reactions, both of which can be measured. They are simply in a very minute quantity.

I'm not ready to concede that they are not something that can be measured some day. I will however concede that the answer is unknown to me ~ at this time.
With current technology we are able to see and/or measure things today that were thought to be invisible or completely unknown to folks years ago.
