Ok...here's the skinny! My daughter received a speeding ticket last Monday in Illinois. The officer took her license for 'bond' or something like that. Problem is, she is supposed to fly out to see family for Thanksksgiving, and she needs her I.D in order to get on the plane (as well as get her plane e-ticket). Her court date isn't until 20 December. Is there any way she can go tot he local courthouse and get her ID back and confirm the court date and let her signature be her bond? This was her first ticket.

Pay the ticket. They will return the license in place of the cash bond.

This will not effect her ability to contest the ticket on the court date, it will just be used to secure her appearance.

I would pay in person, to ensure they do not mail the license back, so she gets it in time.

Your action will depend on the particular state you are in.

In my particular state (NC) staying in the state until trial is "not" a condition of bond unless specifically noted on a release order when a person is arrested. Issuance of a traffic citation alone is not a requirement to stay in the state until trial.

Paying a ticket in this state does preclude your contesting it on the court date. When you pay a ticket in this state, you "are pleading guilty." You may want to check on this facet before she pays it off. Then again, if she's guilty, plead and pay it.

The charge she was charged with may require the seizure of her license.

Another possibility for identification for the flight would be to pursue for her an official state ID card. Here in NC you can get that from the DMV license office with proof of who you are and payment of the fee. It looks like a license with picture, address, dob, etc.

You may be able to contact the court and request to post formal bond to have it returned. She must have been travelling at a high rate of speed, cause usually this is unheard of. In some cases the courts will allow you to sign a waiver,or pay a fee for the release oif the license. First step!! Contact the court !!!!!!!!

Go to the DMV and get her an official state ID, usually issued to non drivers for picture ID

Sounds like she is missing her trip. Conditions of bond include remaining in the state.

Bring her to Michigan. Just earlier today, I saw them issue a license to a teen who FAILED her driving test at the Secretary of State.
