I know he was considered for the nomination but didn't get it. I honestly don't know too much about him, but I am interested to hear from experts.

NO, no general ever made a good president, especially Grant & Eisenhower.

Probably not. His thinking was of an earlier era. Even in his military leadership in Korea he failed to understand the difference between a war and a UN Peace Enforcement Mission organized under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter.
His hatred of communism was so virulent that his actions as President could have ignited World War Three and a nuclear exchange with the Soviets and/or China.
On his personal profile, there is one other telling point. His son changed his last name and went on to live in anonymity.

doubtfully, history has shown that great generals haven't made the best presidents. they are military experts and know how to deal with things in a military manner, but foreign and domestic policy and procedure suffer

No, even though he was a five star general, I think he was rapped a little too tight...
