I have bought a genuine CD for Microsoft Word 2007, but Windows keeps saying that I need a newer version of Windows in order to install it. What is the newer version and where can I find it? Is there anyplace to download it for free?

These are the system requirements for Word 2007:
Component Requirement
Computer
and processor 500 megahertz (MHz) processor or higher
Memory 256 megabyte (MB) RAM or higher1
Hard disk 1.5 gigabyte (GB); a portion of this disk space will be freed after installation if the original download package is removed from the hard drive.
Drive CD-ROM or DVD drive
Display 1024x768 or higher resolution monitor
Operating system Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack (SP) 2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, or later operating system
If you are running a version of Windows older than Windows XP Service Pack 2, you need to upgrade. If you're on an older version of XP, you can download Service Pack 2 from Microsoft; otherwise, you'll need to purchase an upgrade.

Balony...that is if you have a CD Player in your PC.If it doesn't play when you put it in.....go to My Computer and click on the icon that shows your correct CD disk drive. If that doesn't work try this.....Click on Start and then RUN.I do not like Windows Vista. You have to buy Microsoft Word 2007 even though your pc comes with it as a program. Even then you can't print from WORD PAD because Micro Word 2007 is the default.

Try going to http://update.microsoft.com download every service pack and patch for your OS.
Also, on the box your disc came with, there should be the minimum specifications needed to run it.
I am pretty sure win 98 and ME are not supported, not too sure about windows 2000. But it will work on windows XP/Vista, but it may just need those patches and service packs.
Windows 2000 ends it's service packs at SP4
Windows XP has SP2 and SP3 should come out soon.
Those patches are free. but, you will never find a legal free updated version of windows software.

Office 2007 is ONLY compatible with Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you do not have one of these then you would need to purchase it in order to Office 2007 to work. Look at the "Sysytem Requirements" on the Office 2007 Box. Or, if you have tossed the box (not smart) you can find it here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101668651033.aspx
Just select the Office Version you bought.

the newer version of Windows is called Windows Vista, but it's a total piece of **** so I wouldn't recommend "upgrading"
By the way, return Microsoft Word 2007 and get the older 2003 version, it is sooooo much more applicable in many more situations

VISTA is the new windows and it is expensive and complicated it is best if you go to the nearest best buy and talk to the ''tech'' at repairs and then go talk to the computer sales dude or lady and get the true low-down on vista and ''new'' microjunk 2007 -- they have really made it near impossible to afford new pc,s and laptops......

Are you running XP with Service Pack 2? If not, that might be what's holding things up.
Hope that helps.
