The lighted ashes go bouncing on the pavement as I drive over it, wondering if it will light something under my car creating an explosion. Does this ever happen to you? How much does it bother you?

I am a smoker. I have never (not even once) done this BUT I have seen others do it. I don't like it either. It's bad for the environment (i.e butts aren't that biodegradable), it's another form of littering, and it has the potential to cause a bushfire if in the right conditions. People have ashtrays in cars and they should use them. On a final note, I never throw my butts on the ground in public either for the same reasons. If there is no place for me to dispose of it, I carry it with me in a portable ashtray until I can get rid of it. There is no excuse.
P.S I agree with phantasy. We are responsible, BUT we are given a thumbs down probably because we smoke. Grow up! I'm tired of people putting thumbs down to answers that are decent but cop flack because someone doesn't agree with a person's personal choices. Really, get a life!

Yes does annoy me. It makes me wonder if they know they have an ash tray inside their car. Unless u have a major gas leak under you car it can't catch anything on fire. Since ur goin so fast already when u drive over it, not enough time to catch something on fire. And the cigarettes are what cause fires especialy if they throw it out somewhere where it's dry like Arizona.

It bothers me a lot and it is also against the law. Next time this happens be prepared with a pencil and paper, write down the license plate number, what type of vehicle, what color, and any further details you can get. If you have your cell phone dial 911 and report the issue, otherwise wait until you get home and call the police non emergency number and report the incident. You have to start somewhere or one day maybe our cars might explode from their carelessness and do they care....NO!....

It takes 200 years for a cigarette to biodegrade. I smoke and I always put mine out in the ash tray. It kills me that people don't understand that a cigarette has destroyed homes and the beautiful forest that little critters live in. Very thoughtless of someone to do this.

Im a smoker and it bothers the hell outa me to see anyone throw litter of any kind out on the road. The world is NOT their ashtray/trashcan, but I do NOT think you are in any danger of having a cig blow your car up so dont worry about it.

On a side note wth would someone give me a thumbs down? Is it because i dont like litter ..or because I am a smoker? I just dont understand ppl

What's more annoying is when someone throws it one thr ground without putting it out. That way is fills the air with second hand somke and can start a fire. I mean how hard is it to put your foot on top of the damn cigarette???

One fellow started a small brushfire that consumed part of an electric pole recently. Considering that my neighborhood has had several wildfires in the past, I felt this driver was dreadfully irresponsible.

LOL at slimmyjo. That struck me funny! :-)

On a more serious note, I hate that too. It's annoying, selfish, dangerous and illegal. That is what the ashtray in the car is for!!!

It happens all the time right in front of me while I am driving and it bothers me when I see them doing that.
