I guess the first step is to know whether or not you have the desire to be a doctor. Then you can think about what kind of doctor you'd be. Are you a caring person? Are you able to separate yourself from sad situations or would it really destroy you to see your patients die, would you be able to handle it emotionally? What kind of coping strategies to you have for stress? Many physicians become addicted to drugs or alcohol and many commit suicide. Do you have what it takes to handle the stresses of being a doctor as well as the stresses of becoming one? What kind of support system do you have at home, friends family? How do you like being in a leadership position, knowing you are responsible for the outcome of every patient?

These are some things to consider.

I think you know if you're going to be a good doctor if after answering all of those questions, you know you have what it takes and it's the only thing you'd want to dedicate your life to.

Since you didn't follow that question with "How much money can I make?" I would say you are half way there.

In education training you need intelligence, diligence, persistence and stamina. In practice you need to add compassion and patience and the gestalt (for lack of a better word) necessary to hire good help.
