Any person entering his name in the blank below is a hero. He offered his life for America.
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Anyone who goes above and beyond the service.
That being self sacrifice to the extreme.
Because when you get right down to it, everyones in harms way.
So unless youre fighting wounded and holding a vital position for other soldiers safety,
Of youre falling on a frag.
But Its a weird question because I dont think front line soldiers care about whos more heroic....everyone just wants to accomplish the mission and come back alive.
So save the medals for the civilians, and the pretense for those that couldnt stomach signing on the line.
I dont know any soldier who really cares about the medals...
because the real honour is in the serving your country

absolutely, but its not the fact that they wore the uniform, its the fact that they did something extreme on behalf of someone else. They risked all they had for our freedom and there is no more honorable trait I can imagine than that. But it is the actions that set a hero apart from everyone else, not the uniform they wear. My heros are they guys who can be a warrior by day and a family man by night and not allow the war to come home with them. The guys who truly appreciate the love of a family and put their children and spouses before themselves or their work.

Medal of Honor recipients, Distinguish Service Cross, Navy Cross, Combat Silver Stars and Combat Bronze Stars. These people to me are heroes. It signifies that they were/are willing to put there life in great danger to help or protect others. Many times giving their own life with no expectations.

Anyone that has honorably served their country is a hero. I have enormous respect for the veterans. My dad and father-in-law were in Vietnam, one of my grandfathers was in Korea and both of my grandfathers were in WWII. I'm in the Army right now and my uncle just retired from the Navy.

Anyone who enlists of their own volition and serves their country honorably, and comes out of the military honorably, is a hero.

Well as a retired Army SFC I believe every vet is a hero.
I didn't think like that when I was on active duty, But today, yeah they are all heros.

This is a tough question for those who go out to be heros get into situations that cause other people to die. Thus a hero is someone who is selfless in all that they do. Which excludes most soldiers who don't extend themselves for others. Also, a POW, is only lucky to be alive because the enemy didn't kill them when they had the chance.
