Japanese and US 60GB models have pretty much an entire PS2 in them. It will run fine.
PAL 60GB models have only the GPU from the PS2 in them. They emulate the CPU (after downloading an update). It will play most PS2 games, but not necessarily all.

Hell definite you ought to. The PS3 has blu-ray ($one hundred sixty for HD-DVD for 360), makes use of blu-ray for video games (50 gb as against 9 gb for 360), incorporates wifi ($one hundred for 360), and has an 8-center 3.2 Ghz cellular Processor that changed into customed designed for it (3-center 3.2Ghz interior the 360, that is weaker than my laptop). It upscales ps2 video games and DVD's and it performs PS1. it may also connect with a PSP once you've one, that's largely an leisure center and a laptop and a console all mixed. If cost is a mission, get it on ebay. I were given mine for 500 4 months in the past, and my pal in basic terms were given one for 435.

The 60GB PS3 can play almost every PS1 and PS2 game ever made because it has the Emotion Engine chip in it.
The 40GB PS3 cannot play PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games.
