I just answered a question it was (Who is your Hero) I was very surprised to only see one answer saying soldiers who died for our country. Are u surprised more ppl didnt think of soldiers as their heros? Is America as patriotic as we say we are?

Soldiers should be used to it. I never received a thank you from a civilian in 22 years on active duty.
The first time someone did say thank you to me I had been retired from the military for 6 years. I was shocked and really did not know what to say.
Today the Dem's care that soldiers die in enough numbers to get them the white house. Or at least it sure seems like it.
But in general I hear so many more thank yous today than I could dream about. Now if They were all genuine that would be great.

No, not in my opinion. Patriotism as it existed in this country during WW II, is now only a part of history.
At that time, patriotism was so strong and prevalent, it was almost palpable. Those who didn't volunteer were drafted; but there was no question of service being an honorable servcie, and one's duty.
Because of the still unresolved conflict in Korea, and the debacle of the Vietnam War,
respect for our military has greatly declined.
A career in the military nowadays, is just another career, a profession like any other. And the quality of the amerian soldier today, is not that of those in WW II. My feeling is, that most enlisted people nowadays, are those who don't think they can make it in the extremely competitive business or industrial arenas. Not to disparge them, but just to state a simple fact of life. I know there are many who would disagree, so, so be it.
And the state of affairs with the VA, is so scandelous, that hardly anyone has any respect for that organization anymore.
My care-giver, conducted clandistine operations in north korea during the time our troops were involved in that conflict. The VA and Army now claims, that he more or less doesn't even exist. And his attempts to gain benefits, has turned into a nightmare.
Heros in our military currently? Any real ones are few and far in between.

I am from the USA, I am a 100% disabled Veteran. Maybe your heroes are those who run door to door killing the enemy made up by your president. This is not my idea of a hero, it is the idea or a mercenary which is what our govt. is lowering our military to doing. The war in Iraq is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention and acts against humanity. Saddam was not a choir boy, but our president lied to invade under false pretenses. That is an act against humanity, look up the invasions that began WWII, fascism is the mix of politics and religion.
Our country has no business playing police officer to the rest of the world. The UN passed the sanctions against Saddam, it should have been the UN enforcing them, not the USA.
Troops go to war because it is in their contract, not because they are my hero.

People dont realize that this Great Nation saved the world not just once but twice. From tyranny and tyrants. There have been many who died protecting our freedom. This country doesnt make anyone practice a religion. This country allows its citizens to go any where and practically do any thing we please. We have to protect ourselves but we protect the world. Our soldiers are definitely heroes but we dont do enough for them and their families. The youth of our country seem to take for granted our freedoms because that is all they have seen. They dont realize that there are people that want to take away our freedoms. Like eat at McDonalds, play video games, listen to our Ipods. its all taken for granted

Yes they are. but speaking as a soldier I do not feel like a hero.
I think Americans are very patriotic but do not see soldiers as heroes but as something else some bad some good. TV is to blame for this and so is the news

Shawn A is a retard. Just because you like someone as a model doesnt cause you to "bake children in ovens." Anyway, Im in the Corps and my hero is my grandfather. Its not because he was in the 82nd Airborne and made jumps in both WW2 and Korea but instead because of how he lived his life and loved his family. Military guys are awesome and I sincerely respect anyone who is willing to volunteer for a typically ungrateful job but they dont necessarily earn "praise or respect" just beacuse they are in. The uniform doesnt make the man, the man makes the uniform. Its our legacy outside of the uniform that sets us apart.

Good question. I honestly think that people really do care about our country, but sometimes we are oblivious to what is really going on. If someone hasn't had to deal with a family member going to war, or themselves, then they might not think of it at all. However, when something tragic happens to us (EX: 9/11) we combine as a united nation. Like I said, it depends on people, and I personally think we need to be more aware of what's going on in our country....and care about it.

I think its stupid that ppl hav such lil respect for our country and the soldiers. Wen ppl dont say the pledge of alliegence, they r sayin that they could care less that thousands of ppl r dyin, just so they can hav the freedom not to say the pledge! As my 8th grade history teachr said, "If u dont wanna show respect to the ppl who r dying for ur country, then move to a new country."
Shawn A needs to go die.

Soldiers in general? That seems a little too abstract for the question. I believe the question was "who" is your hero? I believe( no offense in any of this is intended) that the question asks for a specific answer.

Of course we do. I love our soldiers who have laid down their lives. It's just the meaning of the war in general. Our leaders told us lies, now we are in something we can't get out of. Our soldiers leave their families, some of them for the last time. I pray for each and everyone of them. For them to return home, where they belong.
