And please, tell me what religious beliefs you have. I'm doing a paper for school on how religion might be related to pet ownership.

Cats, dogs. In the past it's also been ponies, rabbits, fish, a bird, a Jersey calf, and a milk goat. Almost all rescued from shelters. I'm garden-variety Christian, taught to take care of what is suffering and give shelter animals a chance instead of spending wads of cash on designer pets. Your paper sounds very interesting.

Edit--Ibushido, I can't believe you got a thumbs down either! Sheesh, who knew people on this board were so prejudiced against chinchillas?

Freaky! I was just about to ask this question.
Whoo, kismet.

I identify myself as a Neo-Pagan Witch and a Unitarian Universalist. My husband is Agnostic with strong leanings toward Zen Buddhism.

I share my family home with two cats and two dogs.

We also foster animals for rescue organizations, often pick up strays and deliver to the local humane society, find their owners or re-home them ourselves.

All of our pets are adopted from shelters or found without homes.

We do this out of compassion and our beliefs in personal responsibility. I do think my religion / spirituality reflects those same values.

Living with animals is a big boost to me spiritually. I've learned so many lessons from them. If I could pick a virtue to learn perfectly from my pets, it would be resilience and the ability to put a bad memory behind you and live for today. Although, total unconditional love wouldn't be a bad lesson either.................

I am an atheist with a dog and two cats. I would like to have more dogs, but my husband is allergic to some dogs and one of our cats. I need to keep the zoo small for now.

BTW, I think you will find zero correlation between pet ownership and faith.

One dog, two chinchillas- Atheist/humanist

How do I get a down vote for this?? I just listed my pets and my non-religion. What gives anyone else the right to disapprove of that?!

Just for that, I'm giving everyone else a thumbs up for taking care of another creature.
