I know its not fleas, becouse I just bought them flea collers. I think they might have ear mights or something. whatever it is, its not bothering any other part but there head and ears. But I think it has to do with there ears. All four of them have whatever it is. There outside cats so they could get it at anytime. And if it helps they live in a hay barn. Iam going to walmart to see if they have anything. But I want to know what everyone else thinks, it is. Thanks!!

you're right they have ear mites
my cat has the same thing right now
all you have to do
is go to the pet store and pick up the specialized ear drops for it
put them in twice a day until the head scratching stops
*I know this because I've had many pets throughout my 13 years of life and I had to be the one to put in the eardrops*

Good Luck!

Trust me when I say you DON'T know it's not fleas - flea collar really don't work!! Think about it. The pesticide in them does not spread through the skin, so they only keep fleas away from the neck, if indeed they do anything at all.

Get the flea collar off the cats, it's probably irritating them like hell, they often cause reactions. Get them some proper flea treatment from a vet, like Frontline or Revolution, you're not going to find a useful flea treatment at a pet store. I sugget Revolution because it treats ear mites as well as fleas, but if the itching doesn't clear up after that the cats will have to see a vet.

First off, flea collars you buy in the stores don't work. They CAN do a good job at killing fleas around the neck though, which does absolutely no good at all. They can actually cause more harm than good.

Sounds like ear mites though since all the scratching is around the ears. You will need prescription medication that only a Vet can prescribe.

Ear mites are typically treated by doing a initial cleaning, then applying Tresaderm drops twice a day for 2 weeks and applying Revolution (topical flea medication that also treats some intestinal parasites and ear mites) once a month for 3 months. Ear mites can make the ears appear very dirty, but if it's an early infestation than you may not see much dirt or debris at all.

Flea collars are not 100% effective against fleas. Their actually not very effective at all, so it could be fleas. It could also be the scratchiness of the hay in the barn they live in. I'd check them carefully before getting anything to treat them. You might end up treating a problem they don't have. If you're not sure what to look for, have a vet check them. If it is ear mites, nothing Wal-Mart has will help that anyway.

look inside the cats ears, how dirty are they??
Ear mites make the ears REAL dirty
If you rub behind the ear do the cats get into it, ya know lean into your hand???
If they do then most likely its ear mites, take at least one to the vet, the one that is doing most of the scratching, your vet should give you enough eat mite meds for all the cats.

You should go to the vet. Or,look closely at the part that is itching. You MIGHT find something very WEIRD!
